Eastern Forest Environmental Threat Assessment Center and Western Wildland Environmental Threat Assessment Center Management Review Focus Questions - Week of July 5-10, 2009; Atlanta, GA, and Portland, OR
1. How well are the center(s) implementing the existing charters?
Are the centers implementing/accomplishing FS Strategic Goals?
2. Should the center(s) charter be extended or amended?
3. Is Prineville the best location for the western center? Is Asheville the best location for the eastern center? Does location affect program delivery or effectiveness?
4. What is the best mix of deputy area and level of funding for the center(s)?
5. Have the mix of products and their technology transfer efforts by the center(s) been successful?
- How do the centers identify and prioritize products and tech transfer efforts?
- Are oversight and feedback processes working, or is more involvement from customers and partners warranted?
- What will help the Center's best achieve their goals and serve their customers most effectively and efficiently?
6. How well have the Centers achieved their *key objectives*,
- what metrics were used for the evaluation,
- what are the priority limiting factors in achieving these key objectives that need to be addressed, what are the specific recommendations to address the identified limiting factors, and
- What are the performance measures to be sure that success is being accomplished?
- Can Briefing Papers be provided with success stories?
*Key Objectives* - Evaluate the effects and consequences of multiple interacting stresses on eastern forest health/western wildland health;
- Increase knowledge and understanding of the risks, uncertainties, and/or benefits of multiple environmental stresses on ecological conditions and socioeconomic values;
- Provide science-based decision support tools for policy formulation and land management in the eastern/western United States; and
- Provide land managers with credible predictions of potential severe disturbance in the East/West with sufficient warning to take preventative actions.
