Biography of Perdita Spriggs


As EFETAC's Communications Director, Perdita Spriggs manages internal and external communications, media relations, and science delivery. Perdita joined EFETAC in 2007 after serving as press officer for the Southern Research Station. She joined the Forest Service family in 2001 as regional corporate communications manager for the Southern Region in Atlanta, where she developed and implemented communications strategies, coordinated special events and VIP visits, and developed speeches and communication materials. During this time, she also served as the Interim Deputy Director for Public Affairs and Legislative Programs which included coordinating regional congressional briefings for the Washington Office.

She began her federal career in 1993 as a public affairs trainee with the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) in Raleigh, NC. Prior to joining the Forest Service, Perdita was NRCS's communications and marketing manager in Columbia, SC, providing guidance, direction, and program assistance for all public affairs activities for over 200 employees and conservation partners in South Carolina. She also worked on special communication assignments with regional and national Farm Bill and natural resource teams.

Perdita graduated from Hampton University in Hampton, VA, in 1991 with a B.A. in English and has completed post-graduate work in professional writing. With nearly 20 years of communications and public relations experience, she has worked in both the public and private sectors. Additionally, she has freelanced for newspapers as well as local, regional, and national education, lifestyle, and conservation publications, including Land and Water Magazine, and is a contributing writer for Compass, the Southern Research Station's quarterly science magazine.
