Biography of William D. Smith

William D. Smith is a biometrician with EFETAC’s Forest Health Monitoring Team. His current research will result in the development of sampling designs for monitoring forest health, estimation procedures for temporally and spatially correlated data, and indicators of forest health, and will integrate aerial survey, remote sensing, and other polygonal data with plot data. He is involved in collaborative research to model: the impact of fusiform rust, hardwood encroachment, hurricanes, and other stressors on stand development and value; geotropism in pine; and bioenergetics of red-cockaded woodpecker foraging. His collaborative research also incorporates forest health in planning and decision models.
